From May 7th to May 17th, the unmissable appointment for tennis fans was held at the Foro Italico in Rome: the Internazionali BNL of Italy. Inside the new Players Lounge, a space dedicated to cutting, color, hairstyling and nails. From Bob Bryan to Flavia Pennetta to Jelena Jankovic, Martina Hingis and Simona Halep. Who took care of their look? Carlo and Giuseppe Tessier.

From Sara Jessica Parker to Al Pacino, Carlo and Giuseppe Tessier are the celebrity hairstylists. Hannp two salons in the capital: one in Cinecittà and the other in the frame of Piazza di Spagna. For the occasion, they “moved” to the Foro Italico where they worked in two salons: one for tennis players and the other for the public. And there was always the queue … That’s what Carlo Tessier told us.

What were the greatest demands of tennis players?
The cut and the change of look because during the weeks before the tournaments do not have much time to go to the hairdresser. Usually, before the game, women ask for a queue, but this year braids were also in great demand. Many girls have even asked us for a manicure.

What change in look did you make?
For Tsonga, the French player, we made a side shave and inserted a side row with the razor. We did a nice thinning job with Simona Halep: she has lots of hair and we gave her lightness. And then there was Jelena Jankovic, a special client. He used to come to us every day to be braided, each time a little different. We also did shatush to her.

Were there any special requests?
Tennis players are very superstitious: if a certain type of look has brought luck, they want to do it again. Novak Djokovic every day he won a game came to us and joked with us. Very nice Grigor Dimitrov and Andy Murrey who also made a gag, improvising as hairdressers. After the games many women returned to have a soft and smooth blow-down or curls done.

What products did you use?

What tips to look for tennis players?
I definitely recommend a braid or a tail for women. An even cut is always better because at least it is easy to collect the hair. The fringe? Even if practical, I don’t like shaved too much because they are more aggressive and not very elegant.
